Lights, Camera, Action! Making videos like a superstar

2 weeks ago, I had the pleasure to go to the Beyonce and Jay-Z concert in Amsterdam.

Even though both of them are superstars and can sing and rap, a big part of their show revolved around video’s. Short clips with an insight into their lives, so as the audience you get have an insight in their lives.

What if we all did that? Make video’s that help other people get to know you, before meeting you. Specifically, when making that video it can improve your chances to getting that perfect job / or the perfect candidate to come work for your company.

Here are some tips to help you achieve just that!

Lights

I think you all had that experience, wanting to make the best selfie of a beautiful sunset – but there it is the sun is right at the back of you. And the camera isn’t able to see you…

So, to make a viewer see you in the best light possible (pun intended) – make sure the light hits your face.  To achieve that, you could sit just beside a window or use the reading light you have as a “spot” light. You will see the difference it makes!

Also makes sure that the background of your video will not distract the viewer, a nice clean wall will usually do.

Camera

Investing in a camera can be a pricy thing, the video trainer Pelpina Trip told us during a video training that the best camera you can use is the one you have with you. Normally that is your smartphone, and these days cameras on your phone have a pretty good quality. Do keep in mind that sound can be an issue that can easily be resolved by you using a microphone.

The webcam on your PC is also a good option to record an easy and accessible video to present yourself to a future employer / employee.

Action!

Now that you have everything you need in place, it’s time to record.

And just like in real life, the first impression is the one that counts. But to take off the pressure, in the video interviewing world the person viewing the video wants to get to know the real you. Keeping it simple and short will help the viewer get an impression of you that will make them want to meet you – So the best way to go in to your video is to be confident that you are the best you, you can be.

Presenting yourself to someone is always scary – even us video experts at Cammio struggle sometimes whilst recording ourselves.

But with everything in life, practice makes perfect.

So just keep filming and Be-yonce!
